The Harlequin/Silhouette Romance Reading Challenge 2009

I loved doing the Harlequin/Silhouette Romance Reading Challenge last year and now it's time to get ready for 2009. This challenge will begin on January 1, 2009 and run through December 31, 2009. The rules are a bit different this year, but not by much. Here are the rules...

All of the books have to be from either the Harlequin or Silhouette imprint. It doesn't matter which one. The challenge is...

1) Read 1 book with a holiday theme.

2) Read 1 book by an author you never read before.

3) Read 1 book with one of these words in the title - wedding, marriage, husband or wife

4) Read 1 book set in a place you've never been before.

5) Read 1 book with a body of water in the title (i.e. water, lake, river, island, etc.)

That's a total of 5 books for the year.

A few additional things...

1) You can change books in the middle of the year, nothing is written in stone!

2) Books used in this challenge may be used in other challenges.

3) Books can be in any format - paper, audio, ebook.

4) Please sign up by commenting to this post.

5) Please come back and post your reviews as you read the books for the challenge.

6) Please link us to your blog using one of these buttons...

There will be a prize at the end of the challenge. I don't know what it will be yet, but everyone who completes the challenge will be entered into the contest!

Most of all...I hope everyone has a good time with this!

Here's my list for the reading challenge:

1) Once Upon A Valentine by Holly Jacobs – Harlequin American Romance(holiday theme)

2) Business in the Bedroom by Anne Oliver – Harlequin Presents (Author I’ve never read
before)

3) A Weaver Wedding by Allison Leigh – Silhouette Special Edition (Book with wedding, marriage, husband or wife in the title)

4) The Wyoming Kid by Debbie Macomber – Harlequin American Romance (Place I’ve neverbeen to before)

5) Devlin and the Deep Blue Sea by Merline Lovelace – Silhouette Desire (book with a body ofwater in the title)

I'd like to participate, but don't have a blog I could link the contest to. Can I still play?

Yvonne said...

Melissa - Yes, you can definitely play along. You can post your list here and you can post your reviews of whatever you read here. That would be fine!

I also have a Harlequin/Sihouette Yahoo group (there's a button on this blog to click and join) you can join to post your updates and I just created a group on Shelfari where you can update your reading.

Thanks to all for participating!

Count me in! My post is here. Unfortunately I am not yet sure where I can get the books (I'm in Germany), so I haven't made up a list yet.

I'd like to play, too. My list will be posted here.

Okay, I just looked at the titles of Harlequins over at http://www.eharlequin.com...they're not terribly creative with their titles are they? All I'm seeing are "Italian prince" or "pregnant mistress"...LOL.

PS. I love your kitty in your profile pic...he or she is soooo cute!

Kathrin said...

@ Patty: I think lack of creativity when it comes to titles is *the* trade mark for Harlequin romance novels...

Btw, apparently Amazon.de has a whole bunch of Harleqin and Silhouette, so I know where to get my books for the challenge and am pretty much all set.

Yvonne said...

Welcome to all the newcomers! Great to have you join us.

A couple of other great places to find Harlequin and Silhouette books - library sales (my library has tons of them for really cheap), PBS and Ebay.

The titles are pretty similar but sometimes you can find something a bit different.

Enjoy!
